A Step Forward for Girls in School Sport

A Step Forward for Girls in School Sport

For years, research has shown that teenage girls are more likely to drop out of sport than boys, often due to discomfort, self-consciousness, or simply not feeling supported. Now, ASICS has stepped in with an innovative solution: the “Undropped Kit”, a brand-new PE uniform designed specifically to tackle the barriers that keep girls from staying active.

Launched in the UK, the kit was co-created with mental health charity Mind and Inclusive Sportswear, and—most importantly—shaped by the voices of over 2,000 teenage girls aged 14 to 16. The result? A uniform that directly addresses the practical and emotional challenges many young women face in school sport.

Unlike the traditional PE kits that often feel outdated, impractical, or unflattering, the Undropped Kit puts comfort, inclusivity, and confidence at the forefront. It features:
  • Convertible skorts/shorts, giving girls the freedom to choose what they feel most comfortable wearing.
  • Period-friendly, sweat-wicking fabrics designed to support girls during the times they need it most.
  • Hidden pockets for small essentials like hair ties or sanitary products.
  • A lightweight hood for warmth and modesty.
  • Temperature-control technology, helping athletes stay comfortable whether indoors or outside.
This isn’t just about fabric or design—it’s about tackling the deeper issue of participation. Studies show that 1 in 3 girls drop out of sport by the time they reach puberty, often due to feeling self-conscious in their kit. By rethinking what a PE uniform can be, ASICS is making a bold statement: every girl deserves to move, play, and feel confident without compromise.

At Hero Athletica, we commend ASICS for this incredible step forward. Their commitment to inclusivity and innovation mirrors our own mission: to empower girls in every sport by giving them apparel that fits well, feels good, and inspires confidence. Together, these efforts are reshaping the landscape of girls’ sport—making sure no girl feels like she has to step away from the game she loves.

As ASICS puts it: when you remove barriers, you unlock potential. And at Hero Athletica, we couldn’t agree more.
