Our Story

Growing up, we played sport in hand-me-down kits, boys’ cuts and sizes that were never quite right. Did we question it? Not really. Did we like it? Definitely not. We never felt confident in what we had to wear, and that stuck with us.

Years later, standing on the sidelines coaching and watching grassroots girls’ football, we realised not much had changed. Girls were still playing in gear made for someone else’s body. And we started noticing something harder to watch: girls who loved the game slowly stepping away from it.

It’s rarely because they stop loving sport. It’s because so much around them sends the message that it isn’t really for them, and the gear is part of that. When nothing fits, it’s easy to feel like you don’t fit either.

So we made the stuff we wish we’d had. Shirts, shorts, footy socks and sportsbands designed for girls from the very first sketch, not boys’ gear in a smaller size.

We know a jersey won’t fix everything. There are plenty of reasons girls leave sport, and most of them are bigger than us. But what she wears to training and on game day shouldn’t be one of them, and that part we can do something about.

That’s why Hero Athletica exists. We want more girls playing, and playing for longer.
